Many of us are expecting Google to put the Nexus name to rest as the company unveiled their first ever Pixel handset lineup late last night, but we were not entirely certain of Google’s future plans for Nexus. However, a report has confirmed that Google will not be releasing anymore Nexus products or Nexus branded devices for that matter, in the future.

Google’s Nexus products of the past were arguably impressive, seeing great improvement every refresh. Comprising of mostly tablets and smartphones, the Nexus lineup was speculated to end with the Nexus 6P and 5X since rumors regarding the new Pixel phones started to emerge. According to Android Police, Google has confirmed to them at yesterday’s Pixel event that the company won’t be pursuing the Nexus branding anymore. Google is said to not have future plans to make new Nexus products, hence it’s safe to say that the company’s upcoming products will mostly go under the wing of Pixel.

Although it’s merely a branding switch up, the brand new Pixel and Pixel XL handsets will be carrying on the legacy of what Google built upon the Nexus since 2010. Having said that, the Pixel phone does seem very promising, based on Google’s presentation yesterday. The Pixel’s camera happened to score the highest ever on DxOMark, rated higher than the likes of the iPhone 7 and Galaxy Note 7. The Pixel is also the first device to have Google Assistsant officially integrated into its software. This shows the amount of effort that Google puts into their software and hardware. What do you think?
