Few days back, Google quietly launched a new tool called Chrome Canvas, and it allows users to sketch, doodle or draw on a blank canvas without needing to download the application.
Any browser that supports WebAssembly will be able to support the tool, where users can type in “canvas.apps.chrome” and they’ll automatically be directed to the Chrome Canvas. The in-web app is quite basic and easy to use, with several brush tools to doodle or sketch such as pencil, chalk, pen and marker, and also an eraser to erase any mistakes.
Users can also adjust the size, opacity and colour of the brush tool. The colour is customisable, but there are also 24 preset colours for those who want to save time. Besides that, users can also choose to open new canvas from image, which allows them to doodle on the image they’ve uploaded to the web. They can then choose to export the file, which only comes in the PNG format.
Apart from that, users can revisit their sketches and drawings from any other devices as long as they can access their Google profiles from the devices. Those who have Chromebook can also add the Canvas app into their app drawer by installing the app through the three-dot menu.
Canvas is a quick and efficient solution to those who need to come up with sketches and doodles at random or spontaneous times. That being said, it only offers very basic functions for now so you should not be expecting advanced results like those from Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator.
