We’ve reported yesterday that Apple intends to announce a new revenue sharing model with its developers once they’ve introduced a major update to the App Store. Well, it seems that Google will also be changing its revenue-sharing model as well, but unlike Apple, this new revenue-sharing model will be introduced without needing to fulfill any requirements.
According to Recode, this new revenue-sharing model will introduce an 85/15 split from the current 70/30 split, much like what Apple has. Where Apple requires developers to have an active app subscription base for a year before switching to the new revenue-sharing model, Google will be offering the 85/15 split the instant it goes live.
This new 85/15 revenue split isn’t exactly a new thing for Google as reports from various sources states that Google has been testing out this new split over a year ago with video services as a way to get Play subscriptions to work with its TV streaming offerings like the Cast dongle.
No timeline was given as to when this new revenue-sharing model will be rolled out, but we’re assuming that it wouldn’t be too long until it goes live.
