Google has officially launched the Pixel 9a, it is the entry model of the Pixel 9 lineup that directly rivals and undercuts the iPhone 16e at RM2699.

The Pixel 9a boasts several key upgrades over its predecessor, it is powered by a more powerful Tensor G4 chip paired to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage, screen size has increased to 6.3-inches with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2700 nits of peak brightness, albeit still protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, durability has also improved with IP68 water and dust resistance.

Design wise, we no longer have the signature camera bar on the back and even the dual cameras reside in a totally flat bump, giving it a nice minimalist look on the back, while it comes in four color options of Iris, Obsidian, Peony and Porcelain.
The Pixel 9a has a new dual camera system that comprises a 48MP wide and 13MP ultrawide, with the latter support Macro Focus that lets you snap objects up close with great clarity, it also comes with Pixel 9 exclusive features such as Add Me, which allows you to add the photographer later into the shot and stitch it together, other photography features include Astrophotography mode, a first on a Pixel A series phone that allows you to capture the milky way.

Battery size has been increased to 5100mAh from 4492mAh previously, which users should see a notable improvement in battery life, it also supports faster wired charging at 23W while wireless charging remains at 7.5W.
Overall, the Pixel 9a offers many upgrades over the Pixel 8a that’s certainly worth taking a look at, at least when compared to its direct rival, you are getting better hardware value and more polished AI features, the Pixel 9a is expect to be available in Malaysia some time in April, which you can purchase from authorized dealers such as Senheng, SenQ, Urban Republic, telco partners CelcomDigi, Maxis, and Google’s official store on Shopee and Lazada.
