Google Pixel 6 series officially launched: Priced from about RM2,486

The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro have officially been launched and it’s priced from $599 (about RM2,486) and $899 (about RM3,732) respectively.

The Pixel 6 comes with a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel along with a 90Hz refresh rate, while the Pixel 6 Pro packs a 6.7-inches 1440p LTPO AMOLED 120Hz display instead. Both phones come with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for protection.

The design of the device is what we’ve already seen before – curved panels with a black horizontal bar accents the phone’s paintjob. The Pixel 6 comes in Sorta Seafoam, Kinda Coral, and Stormy Black; while the Pixel 6 Pro comes in Cloudy White, Sorta Sunny, and Stormy Black.

Under the hood is Google’s Tensor chip which we’ve spoken extensively about before – it’s a product of the collab between Google and Samsung, and it‘s built based off of the latter’s Exynos 9855.

Tensor isn’t as powerful as the likes of the Snapdragon 888 or A14 Bionic, but it’s a chip that’s well-optimised to run Google apps very smoothly, and offer better computational photography than previous Pixel devices.

Speaking of, both phones come with a 50MP main lens, and a 12MP ultrawide lens; but Pixel 6 Pro packs an extra 48MP telephoto lens.

Although the camera hardware doesn’t look all that impressive – it’s the list of imaging software features that impress; there’s Face Unblur that sharpens facial details; Portrait Mode now comes with better subject-background separation; Super Res Zoom that offers 20x zoom; Magic Eraser that lets up you remove background objects; and more.

Powering all of this is a 4,600mAh and 5,000mAh battery for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro respectively. Both phones charge at 30W, however the former supports 21W and 23W of wireless charging respectively.

Pre-orders begin this 28 October in the US; as usual, it will likely be available in Malaysia through third-party retailer.
