Google today confirmed that it will be holding a launch event on May 7 to announce “something big”. Even though the teaser on the Google store does not include any major clues, it is being speculated that the company may unveil the rumored Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL smartphones at the I/O 2019 keynote on May 7th.

The Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will be the Mountain View-based company’s first mid-range smartphones to carry the Pixel branding. Going by recent leaks, the two smartphones will be priced competitively in emerging markets such as India. Elsewhere, however, they will carry a premium over other mid-range Android smartphones.

In Canada, a new leak suggests the smaller Pixel 3a will start at CAD 649 (RM2,008), while the Pixel 3a XL will start at CAD 799 (RM2,472). In terms of hardware specs, the smaller Pixel 3a is expected to run on an octa-core Snapdragon 670 chipset. The bigger Pixel 3a XL, on the other hand, may run on a more powerful Snapdragon 710 instead. Apart from being less powerful than the Pixel 3 devices, the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will have a less impressive polycarbonate build.

For optics, the two smartphones will have a single 12.2MP resolution camera on the back and an 8MP sensor on the front for selfies. Both models are rumored to pack a 3000mAh capacity battery with fast charging support.
