Google: over 5 million cardboard viewers shipped

Google has released some interesting numbers and statistics on its blog about the VR world we know about today. With Google Cardboard being out there for 19 months, the company has decided that it should now boast some numbers for us to crunch on.

Since the beginning of Google Cardboard, over 5 million Google Cardboard viewers have been shipped to consumers worldwide and this includes 3rd party ones as well. Also, there has been more than 25 million installs of over 1000 Cardboard apps in the Play Store over the last year and a half.

Other interesting statistics include over 350,000 in views of VR videos watched on Google’s video streaming site, YouTube and over 750,000 VR photos captured from the company’s recently launched Cardboard Camera.

Cardboard viewers work with smartphones to create a VR experience, like on VR headsets. What do you think about this affordable headset? Or do you prefer going full on like the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR? Let us know your thoughts!
