One of the best feature that Google Maps need to adopt from Waze is the ability to create reports so that users are more aware of the traffic situations when they’re on the roads. That being said, Google Maps users who have been waiting for this feature might not have to wait much longer because someone started seeing speed traps on the Google Maps.
According to Android Police, there have already been crash and speed trap reports back in November 2018, however it was only limited to certain users and still not globally available. The long-awaited feature was also slightly off as it only allowed users to report crashes and speed traps but users failed to see what others reported.
However, this feature that was rediscovered recently was said to be visible on Google Maps when you’re on the road, and there’s even an audio cue when users are approaching the speed camera. However, Android Police did state that they couldn’t find the similar speed camera icons when they browse the same location, so it might be possible that the feature is still rolling out.
If Google Maps really brings in this feature that can alert users of speed traps ahead, it will definitely reduce the amount of drivers who get tickets for going over the speed limit. In addition, they might just be more inclined to switch from Waze to Google Maps if Google Maps is quicker at introducing all these practical features.
