Cheaper smartphones tend to have issues when it comes to updates, mainly because their hardware just can’t keep up with the latest advancements that Google provides with new versions of Android. However, they plan to change that by releasing a toned down version of Android which they showed off at I/0 2017 back in May.
Android Oreo Go is now available to manufacturers and it comes with Android 8.1. This version of Android is created for devices that have only 512MB to 1GB of memory, it is also said to be 50 percent smaller and 15 percent faster than regular Android. Google has also included pre-installed apps that are slightly stripped down versions of available apps like Google Assistant Go, Files Go, Google Go, Google Maps Go, Gmail Go, YouTube Go, Gboard, Chrome and Play Store.
The tech giant has already revealed its partners for the first Go phones which will be available early 2018 in India. There is no news if it will come to the rest of the world but it would definitely be a game changer for those of you that prefer getting budget phones over flagships.
