Back at the Made By Google event, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai mentioned that they wanted Google Assistant to be much more personable than your the robotic monotone that defines the modern day digital assistant. Today, the Wall Street Journal has given us some hints as to how Google hopes to achieve that, as it reports that Google is apparently hiring writers who used to work for Pixar and The Onion.
The logic behind Google’s hiring is simple: by humanising Google Assistant, Google hopes that an emotional connection between the user and the AI assistant could form at a faster rate. In short, Google’s believes that writers are necessary to give Google Assistant some personality. This would then translate into a better user experience.
With both Google Home and the Pixel smartphones scheduled to be launch next month, it’ll be interesting to see if Google’s attempts to humanize its AI assistant manages to pay off.
