When Google Glass first launched, it was building hype all around the world with what it could do and offer to our lives. Sadly, a lot of promises were made but not much was delivered. Today, Google announced a new chapter for the wearable, and it is being focused on a variety of industries like manufacturing, logistics, field services and healthcare. It also has a new design that is focused on comfort and longer battery life.
In the field of medicine, it seems to be showing its worth. Doctors at Dignity Health has been using Glass to conduct a conference with their patients. Now, instead of typing down notes, all the note taking is done in the background and doctors can give their full attention to the patients. In addition to that, Dignity’s Chief Medical Information officer Dr Davin Lundquist said that Google Glass has reduced the time taken on typing up patient notes and other administrative work from 33% of their day to only 10% of their day, giving them more time to interact with patients.
It looks like Google has finally found a place for Glass to call home and it is nice to see a tech that had so much potential being utilised for the most important of reasons.
