Remember that time when Microsoft place the Edge up against three other browsers in a battery test? Remember how the test showed that the computer running Chrome was the first one to fail, thereby implying that Chrome was the most power consuming browser available? Well, Google has replied to this test by publishing its own battery life that shows of how long the latest build of Chrome, Chrome 53, is much more efficient than its predecessor.
In a Youtube video published by Google itself, the test shows two identical Surface Books running two different versions of the Chrome browser. One of the Surface Books was tasked to run Chrome 46, while the other runs Chrome 53. To test the battery life, Google has decided to let both browsers stream identical Vimeo footage non-stop. The result? The laptop running Chrome 46 was the first to give out, clocking in at 8 hours and 27 minutes, while the laptop running Chrome 53 lasted 10 hours and 39 minutes. Doing the math, this shows that the laptop running Chrome 53 managed to last 2 hours and 12 minutes longer than the Chrome 46 laptop.
While the result shows that Chrome’s power consumption has been improved upon over iterations, this result does not mean that Google’s own browser is now superior to Edge in any way. However, if Microsoft would like to do yet another battery comparison test with Chrome 53 and Edge, we won’t mind watching it either.
