The wearable technology landscape seems to be dying, especially when it comes to Android Wear, with Google delaying the official release of Android Wear 2.0 till next year, and major manufacturers stating that they won’t be launching Android Wear smartwatches for this year. Google will be attempting to ignite the flame of Android Wear again, as it plans to launch two smartwatches in 2017.
Jeff Chang, product manager of Android Wear has spoken to The Verge, claiming that Google will be unveiling two flagship wearables in the first quarter of 2017. The two smartwatches will be the first to run on Google’s official Android Wear 2.0, ahead of the rest in the wearable world. Google’s devices are often made through partnerships with OEM’s, such as the company’s latest Pixel phone lineup by HTC, but without the HTC branding. No manufacturers were named just yet for the Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches, but both will sport the manufacturers’ branding instead of a Google or Pixel branding, which is good news for the manufacturers.
Chang has further stated that fellow manufacturers will launch new Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches after the unveiling of Google’s two flagship wearables. The 5th Developer Preview of Android Wear 2.0 will roll out in January 2017, and it will be the final one as Google gears up for the official release of the platform after a long wait.
