Google delays Cloud Next conference indefinitely

Google’s initial plan to convert its Cloud Next conference to an online event has now changed — the company is now delaying its event indefinitely over growing concerns caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

As mentioned on its blog, the company has made the decision to postpone the plan to prioritise the health and safety of those around them. However, Google also promised that the event will be held, but only “when the timing is right”.

In The Verge‘s report, the sudden decision could be caused by the new “shelter in place” order that covers the San Francisco Bay Area. The order requires citizens to stay at home at all times unless they have to attend to essential needs and they also need to practice social distancing. This has probably caused it to be difficult for Google to do live stream sessions as it’ll still require a group of people to carry out the event.

While the Cloud Next will be held in the future, Google has cancelled its I/O developer conference — its largest tech event.
