The latest version of Google’s Android has been made official a couple of weeks back. Android 7.0 Nougat, though said to be made available for Nexus devices, has only seen its way to the current gen Nexus phones so far – the Nexus 6P and the Nexus 5X. This has caused many of the previous gen Nexus users crying foul over the lack of support for their devices, with no flashable image or OTA updates available for the Nexus devices of 2014. However, Google has since spoken regarding Android 7.0 Nougat on the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 LTE.
According to the folks at Android Police, Google has responded to them stating that the latest Android version will be rolling out beginning from the next few weeks. The good news is, the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 LTE will eventually receive their share of Android Nougat in the future and the bad news, “the next few weeks” could still mean a long wait for users of the respective devices. It remains a mystery as to why Google is taking longer than usual to release Nougat for the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE. While no exact date has been revealed, users will just have to remain patient in order to get their copy of Google’s latest software.
There’s also another option if you can’t wait any longer – Android Beta Program, which has Developer Preview versions of Nougat made available for Nexus devices. Google will be feeling the heat if other OEM’s manage to push out Android 7.0 Nougat for their devices before Google does for its 2014 flagship Nexus devices, so let’s hope that “the next few weeks” won’t take that long.
