Garmin has released two products today that caters to those of you that want to take your cycling to the next level with the introduction of the Garmin Edge 1030 and the Vector 3 both targeted at cyclers that want to improve their form and have a detailed breakdown of their cycling style for those that are in professional category.

Garmin Edge 1030

The Edge 1030 is a GPS bike computer that comes with a lot of features that will help users getting into shape and refine their cycling form. The device comes with a 3.5-inch screen and with a battery life of up to 20 hours which can be extended up to 40 hours through the optional Garmin Charge power pack. Some of the interesting features that it comes with is Trendline, which uses billions of mile of Garmin Connect data to plot out routes on-road and off-road.

It can now also send messages to your cycling group through the device itself without the need of stopping and taking out your phone to message your group. The feature that was the most intriguing was the ability to connect to Strava Live Segments so you can test your limits can compete for your performance against other cycles depending on the segment you want to challenge.

It will display a leaderboard and give you a live update on when your time has been beaten or when you beat another cycler’s time. Finally, as a safety measure, the Edge 1030 has an accident detection system where it can detect when a ride has got into an accident and it will inform friends, family or emergency contacts that you are in an accident and send your current location to the numbers that you have registered.

The Garmin Edge 1030 capabilities are further expanded when connecting it to the Vector 3 dual-sensing power meter. The Edge 1030 comes in a bundle that includes a premium heart rate monitor as well as cadence and speed sensors with a retail price of RM3199.

Vector 3

The Vector 3 is by far the most intelligent power meter, as it is designed with the sensors built into the device. It can be easily installed to any bike and transferred without the need of going to a bicycle shop.

The Vector 3 is able to send data like total power, left and right balance, cadence and cycling dynamics, all this data will be recorded in real-time which you can monitor by paring up the pedals to the Edge 1030. If you need to take it a step further, you can sign in with your Garmin account, which will allow you to see an intensive breakdown of all the data connection through the Garmin Connect web app.

Because it is using ANT+ or Bluetooth to pair, you can even connect it to devices like the Forerunner and Fēnix device if you are unable to get your hands on the Edge 1030. The vector 3 has a battery life of up to 120 hours and has a suggested retail price of RM4799 and RM2899 for the Vector 3S variant which only comes with a single sensor pedal rather than the Vector 3 which both the pedals have sensors.
