Follow up to DROID series to be launched this year

Lenovo has acquired Motorola for a while now, but the latter company seems to be just as independent as before, with its devices still carrying the Moto title and branding with them. Seasoned rumor master Evan Blass has fanned the flames further, suggesting that a DROID MAXX 3 and a DROID Turbo 3 will be launched. Based on their names, the handsets are definitely successors to the DROID MAXX 2 and DROID Turbo 2 from last year.

While this may not come as much of a surprise, since the DROID series has already gone through two annual cycles, tech site GeekSnack has spiced up the rumor along with a couple of alleged spec leaks. Before that, both handsets are said to launch in October, which will be a month earlier compared to last year’s unveiling in November.

The DROID Turbo 2, if not rugged enough, has a shatter-proof screen by Motorola’s ShatterShield technology. GeekSnack suggests that the DROID Turbo 3 will feature not only a screen that is shatter-proof, but scratch-proof as well. We’re not sure whether Motorola will be opting for a material stronger than kevlar, but if there is a material stronger than kevlar, it will be graphene, which is currently researched and has proven to be twice as better than kevlar. But that’s highly unlikely, since the research is for bulletproof vests. Moving on, both the MAXX 3 and Turbo 3 is said to feature pressure-sensitive displays that will work in line with Android N’s 3D Touch features.

Underneath the hood, the DROID Turbo 3 is expected to carry a Snapdragon 820 processor, a whopping 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. The handset is also rumored to sport a 16MP primary camera with a 8MP selfie shooter. USB Type-C is said to make its way to the device, with a 4,500mAh battery. The Turbo 3 is also tipped to retain its 5.4-inch display, if not a 5.5-inch one with QHD resolution. Sounds like the Turbo 3 won’t be any cheap when it launches. So far, there isn’t much info on the MAXX 3 but till then, stay tuned!
