Fixstars introduces a Solid State Drive with 13TB of storage space

Fixstars has broken the storage capacity record for the Solid State Drive (SSD) as the flash storage company has created a pair of SSDs that comes with 10TB and 13TB of storage space respectively.

If this has gotten you excited, you might want to tone down your excitement for a bit as these SSDs aren’t meant for consumer use. Fixstars has stated that the SSDs are optimised for sequential read/write workloads which includes tasks such as object storage, streaming content distribution, CG/VFX production and video processing. As such, the SSDs favour steady performance over maximum speed, as illustrated on the benchmark.

While the SSDs are technically a 2.5-inch drive, it has a 15mm height on it, making it unable to fit into your laptops no matter how hard you try to shove it in. If those aren’t reasons enough to deter you, then you might want to know that the 13TB SSD from Fixstars has an asking price of USD 19,000.
