Every so often, the ads that get served on a website may upset someone due to various circumstances. To that end, Facebook is looking to introduce new ad controls that would allow its users to block certain ads from appearing on the social network service.

Currently in its testing stages, Facebook has given some people the ability to hide certain ad topics from appearing on the service. For now, the topics that can be hidden include alcohol-related ones and parenting-related ones. Once the feature goes live, Facebook will consider adding other topics if people report them as potentially distressing.

“Those are the two most common topics. For families who experience the loss of a child, to continue to see ads about parenting and new baby stuff, that can be really upsetting,” says Mark Rabkin, Vice President of Core Ads at Facebook.

As the feature is currently in its early stages of testing, you probably shouldn’t expect it to go live anytime soon.
