One of Facebook’s curiosities when it comes to the videos that are shown on a person’s News Feed is the fact that it autoplays with the sound muted by default. That will no longer be the case as Facebook has begun rolling out an update that would have the sound for videos on by default.
When the update goes live, hovering on a Facebook video will cause the video to autoplay with the sound enabled, meaning you’ll no longer need to unmute the volume to hear the video. For those who prefer the video to remain silent when it autoplays, you can do so by going into the settings menu and toggling the “Videos in News Feed Start with Sound” option off. Additionally, those who use Facebook on their mobile devices will be pleased to know that the video’s sound will also be disabled by default if the device is in silent mode.
Alongside the autoplay videos, Facebook will also be making some changes to its mobile video experience by introducing larger vertical video previews on News Feed for iOS and Android users. Facebook is also looking to roll out a picture-in-picture mode for Android users. Finally, Facebook will be launching a Facebook video app that will let you watch Facebook videos directly from your smart TV. This app will be made available for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Samsung Smart TV platforms.
