Facebook and Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) has announced a partnership that would see the social media site implement a National Urgent Response (NUR) Alert system in an attempt to find missing children in Malaysia.
This system will send out alerts that include important details about the child. This includes photos, descriptions, location of where the child went mssing, and any other available information that can be provided to the public to aid in the search. PDRM will issue an NUR Alert when they determine that the case qualifies for such an alert, and the alert will be distributed through Facebook’s targeted system.
NUR Alerts are location-based, so some people living in certain areas may seem a few each year, while those living in other areas may not receive any at all. All the alerts will appear on the user’s News Feed, but it will not trigger any notifications.
“When a child disappears, every second counts. Facebook’s geo-targeted alerts will help spread information quickly and effectively to ultimately increase our abilities to find the child,” says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Dato Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
