We are still some time away from seeing NVIDIA’s next generation Volta GPU, however things seem to be shaking up in the mobile GPU department, as NVIDIA has been spotted to work on new iterations of the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 for notebooks, NVIDIA has done a pretty commendable job by using desktop GPUs on notebooks since the GTX 980, the new chips are expected to perform more efficient than the current ones, but also with slower clock speeds as well, but fortunately this isn’t totally bad news.
As reported by NotebookCheck, the new GTX 1080 chip is spotted on the recent Acer Triton 700 notebook and it is still sporting 2560 CUDA cores, there’s a 1290 MHz base clock with a power consumption of 110 W, which is significantly lower in comparison to the original 1556 MHz base clock and 165W power consumption, the lower clock speed also mean lower temperatures to operate, which can allow manufacturers to slim down gaming notebooks yet able to deliver better performance than last gen’s slim notebooks.
If this is true, we should expect NVIDIA to reveal more details about its new mobile gaming GPUs in Computex at the end of this month, and manufacturers like ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte and more are sure to unveil notebooks using the company’s new chips.
