Changing smartphones every year? Hate telco contracts? You will probably be interested in Digi’s latest smartphone upgrade program Digi UP, a similar effort to Maxis’ Zerolution and Celcom’s EasyPhone, Digi UP allows you to choose from a variety of smartphones with a monthly fee on top of a Digi Postpaid 110 plan, customers can opt to upgrade their phones after a year and be guaranteed a buy back price on their existing devices. Most interestingly, Digi UP requires no additional monthly payment for its Digi Shield device protection plan, which covers your device from accidental damage and theft for up to 24 months, but you will still be required to pay a replacement fee.

At this point of time, Digi UP offers the Galaxy Note 8, Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Huawei Mate 10 for sign up, the monthly rates are actually quite affordable and considering that you can swap for a new phone after a year, the savings of buying a new phone is obvious with this plan. However, if you choose to maintain your existing device and discontinue the service after 24 months, the device will still need to be returned to Digi, while you can still continue using the postpaid plan. Also, Digi UP is only offered to existing subscribers with minimum 3 years tenure, customers will also need to have a monthly usage of more than RM80 in the past 3 months and good payment record in the last 12 months.

The Digi UP product page isn’t officially available on Digi’s website at this time of writing, the announcement was made in the company’s community forum, while we are very sure that most of the terms and conditions will remain unchanged when it goes official, there could be more devices being offered in the program with affordable monthly rates in the coming months.
