News about dark mode may have subsided, but one just popped up — WhatsApp Dark Mode for Android. WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp has brought dark mode to Android beta testers in the latest beta version.
If you’re a beta user, then you’ll have to make sure that your WhatsApp version is the latest 2.20.13 update. Once updated, the option to switch on the dark mode should be seen at WhatsApp Settings > Chat.
Under the Display tab, there’ll be two theme options — Light and Dark. The former will be the current typical white background that you’re using now while the latter will be the long-awaited dark mode. For those with Android 9 and lower versions, WhatsApp also lets you automatically switch to the light/dark theme based on your Battery Saver settings.
However, it is worth noting that the dark mode in WhatsApp isn’t fully black or monochromatic. WABetaInfo described the theme as night blue colors, but we think the background is more of a dark greenish-blue while the sender’s event bubbles are dark green.
Since the dark mode is already available for the beta testers, we should expect it to be available in the public app within this year.
