Although Cyanogen Inc is facing some problems with its company direction and management, allegedly laying off a second wave of employees, and former CEO Steve Kondik being left out from the company’s plans, the CyanogenMod custom ROM community remains as active as ever, working on bringing Android Nougat to numerous older devices that won’t be receiving updates from their respective manufacturers. CyanogenMod 14.1 builds have now arrived to a slew of devices which don’t deserve to be left behind.
Among the handsets that will receive their share of CyanogenMod 14.1 are the Nexus 5, Moto X Pure Edition, Nextbit Robin, OPPO R5 and R5s, OPPO R7 Plus and the LG G Pad 7 LTE model. Users of these lucky devices will be able to taste Android 7.1, on top of the customizable close to stock Android CyanogenMod software experience. However, do note that these are nightlies, hence some of the builds might still be unstable. If you are willing to take the risk, do remember to backup all user data before attempting to flash these builds.
On another note, two Xiaomi handsets are receiving CyanogenMod builds for the very first time – the Xiaomi Redmi 3 and Mi 4i. The builds that are being rolled out are of CM13 and based on Android Marshmallow, unlike CM14.1. Samsung’s four year old flagship, the Galaxy S3 has also received CM13, proving it to still be capable of running an Android version which is three years older than the device itself.
