Cyanogen shuts down; all services and build to be discontinued by the 31st of December

Cyanogen has had a rather miserable Christmas as the company that once wanted to “put a bullet through Google’s head” will be shutting all its services and Cyanogen-supported nightly builds by the 31st of December.

While Cyanogen as a company may be done, it appears that the team that worked on CyanogenMod may be attempting to salvage the CyanogenMod source code. According to the CyanogenMod team, the team will be using said source code to work on a new open source OS called Lineage. Nothing solid is known about this OS thus far, but many have guessed that the OS itself will be built on top of the CyanogenMod version 13 and 14.

As for the remains of Cyanogen the company, the business will be consolidating at its office in Palo Alto. Once consolidation is complete, the company will then start work on its Modular OS project that involves building add-ons for Android.
