Computex 2016 has been eventful thus far, both for Asus and for our team at Taipei. The company wowed us with their slew of refreshed products such as as the new Snapdragon powered Zenfones, the Zenbook 3 alongside a new line of Transformer ultrabooks, beefy ROG gaming laptops, and perhaps the most surprising unveiling by Asus – Zenbo, a cute little robot assistant. While Asus has covered pretty much every important aspect of technology, it looks like they’re not done just yet.
Spotted at Asus’ press event at Computex 2016, more specifically the demo area is a VR headset on display, encased in glass, with the “Asus VR” name. It is rather unfortunate that Asus decided not to officially unveil the virtual reality headset like it did with the rest of the devices, hence what we know about this headset is next to nothing. Based on the image, we can see that the VR headset has a couple of buttons plus a touchpad, similar to the recently announced ZTE VR, which supports Google Daydream. The straps of the Asus VR are pretty reminiscent of the strap seen on Asus’ own ZenWatch as well.
By the looks of it, the company has hopped onto the VR bandwagon, which is the in-thing right now, but we won’t be expecting Asus to unveil it at Computex. Since it sports a similar setup to ZTE’s VR headset, chances are that the Asus VR will support Google Daydream as well, making it one of the first after ZTE. How are you liking Computex so far? Stay tuned as we bring you more coverage live from Taipei!
