At COMPUTEX, Qualcomm has announced that they will be making yet another chip. However, this chip isn’t the successor to the Snapdragon 820. Instead, Qualcomm is aiming for the wearables this time around with the new Snapdragon Wear 1100.
Made for small wearables that won’t be able to fit in large batteries, the Snapdragon Wear 1100 is a smaller version of the Snapdragon Wear 2100 chip that was released a few months ago. According to Qualcomm, this particular chip is meant for “targeted purpose” wearables which don’t require the horsepower that multi-purpose wearables require. Examples of such devices include smartwatches for the kids and the elderly, as well as fitness trackers.
The chip itself is 45% smaller than the QSC6270 and is capable of lasting up to seven days with LTE standby. Other features of the Snapdragon Wear 1100 includes a Power Save Mode, an integrated LTE/3G modem, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support, and location tracking via Qualcomm’s “iZat” technology.
While Qualcomm did not mention which devices will be using its new 1100 chip, the company did say that the chips have already been shipped up, so you can probably expect 1100-powered devices as early as next year.
