Many of you would be familiar with Windows Hello of course. This Windows 10 security feature allows you to log into your computer via biometrics such as face, fingerprint or iris recognition. However, at an onstage demo held in COMPUTEX, Microsoft revealed that they would be working on another option that has nothing to do with biometrics: wearables.
As part of the company’s new updates to the Windows Hello Companion Device Framework, Microsoft will be extending full Windows Hello support to werables such as Microsoft Band and other third party wearables. This means that in the future, not only will your wearable be able to log you into your computer, it would be able to make transactions in the Windows Store or even log into websites in Microsoft Edge.
No timeline was given as to when we can expect Windows Hello to start popping up on wearables, but we assume that we’ll hear more about this some time after Windows releases the Anniversary Update to Windows 10.
