Many companies out there are vying for faster charging tech in smartphones. There’s of course the popular Qualcomm Quick Charge, and from smartphone manufacturers themselves – OPPO’s Super VOOC and Huawei SmartPower just to name a few. The successor for MediaTek’s PumpExpress 2.0 has finally been announced and yes, it charges faster – the PumpExpress 3.0 charging tech.

MediaTek claims that PumpExpress 3.0 not only charges faster, but cooler, safer and more efficient as well. Scheduled to be released in Q3 this year, the company claims that devices with this charging solution will be able to go from 0-70% battery in just 20 minutes. According to them, PumpExpress 3.0 is almost twice as fast as its competitors currently out there, not to mention five times faster when compared with conventional charging.

This charging tech happens to the first to use directing charging through USB Type-C power delivery, as claimed by MediaTek. Charging will be more direct as it bypasses the charging circuitry, sending the current directly to the battery from the adaptor. This not only prevents overheating of the device, but offers better efficiency at the same time, with the PumpExpress 3.0 achieving 95%. MediaTek has also made sure that the charging solution stays safe with 20-plus safety and built-in device protection systems, alongside the fact that PumpExpress 3.0 sports bi-directional communication, all in all to prevent the charging adapter or the device from overheating.

According to MediaTek, PumpExpress 3.0 will be available alongside the Helio P20 chips by the end of this year. The charging solution will also be available in future smartphone processors by MediaTek and can be added onto their own SoC’s if customers wish to do so. What do you think?
