Virtual Reality is just limited to the full-sized computers and Samsung’s Gear VR and Google’s Daydream initiative proves that VR will be making a grand entry into the world of smartphones as well. Chip maker ARM realises the potential of VR on a smartphone and they are preparing themselves with their new batch of mobile processors.

The items in question are the new Cortex-A73 chip and the Mali-G71 GPU, both of which are faster than the current chips. For those who like numbers, the Cortex-A73 is 30% faster and more power efficient than the A72 chip, a feat that can be attributed to the chip’s 10nm FinFET design. According to ARM, the A73 is able to sustain peak performance speeds far more than its previous chips, all while having the smallest footprint out of all of its processors.

As for the Mali-G71, the chip will be 50% faster and 20% more energy efficient than ARM’s recent GPUs. The chip itself is built on ARM’s new Bifrost architecture, which allows it to spit out graphics with a latency of 4ms. The G71 will have 32 shader cores, twice as many as the Mali-T880.

Right now, ARM has revealed that the new chip designs have been licensed to companies such as Mediatek, Marvell and HiSilicon. That said, seeing as the chips are still in its early stages, do not expect any of them to be featured in phones until early next year.
