COMPUTEX 2016: AMD reveals the 'Bristol Ridge' APUs

Graphics cards aren’t the only thing that AMD showcased at their press conference in COMPUTEX of course. The company has also revealed its 7th generation processors today.

Codenamed Bristol Ridge, AMD has stated that the high-end FX chips are will be 56% faster than the previous generation laptop processors, while the entry-level chips are 52% faster than the previous generations’. According to the slides show on stage, it seems that the 7th Gen AMD FX chip offers 53% faster graphics and a 51% bump in compute performance when measured alongside Intel’s fastest Core i7 mobile chip.

Power efficiency has also been improved upon by AMD as the company claims that the FX chips use 12% less power than the previous generation. For the lower end chips, AMD has implemented “Excavator” cores to the A9, A6 and E2 processors, making them much more energy efficient while providing them with a performance increase as well.

AMD is still keeping mum as to the prices of the chips, but the company has stated that its partners such as Dell, HP, Asus and Lenovo are already utilising the chips in their new systems.
