Back in June, Apple announced the third generation Mac Pro desktop at this year’s WWDC – almost half a year later, the professional workstation will finally be hitting the shelves.

The machine, along with the Pro Display XDR monitor will be available to order this December through Apple’s official website.

To recap, the latest Mac Pro takes on a new, bolder design with its ‘cheese grater’ front air intake – it’s supposed to offer much better heat dissipation compared to its predecessor. The chassis is aluminium all around and features an easy-to-open panel that lets you get into your internals quickly.

Speaking of hardware, it goes without saying the Mac Pro is a beast – your options range from an 8-core Intel Xeon W to a whopping 28-core Intel Xeon W. For RAM, it comes with a minimum of 32GB, but you can get up to 768GB; there’s an option to get 1.5TB RAM but that requires a 24-core or 28-core CPU.

For graphics, pick from an AMD Radeon Pro 580X, Radeon Pro Vega II or Radeon Pro Vega II Duo. Lastly, for storage you get at least a 256GB SSD which is upgradeable up to a 4TB SSD.

Moving on, the Mac Pro is meant to be paired with the Pro Display XDR monitor – a 32-inch Retina 6K display that pushes up to 1,600 nits of brightness. It pushes a pixel density of 218ppi and displays at an aspect ratio of 16:9.

The XDR in its name stands of Extreme Dynamic Range – think high dynamic range, but extreme (obviously).  This supposedly allows for better contrasts between light and dark colours – even more so than your regular HDR allows. The monitor does not come with the Pro Stand – that’ll set you back $999 (yes, I’m mentioning this to remind you of the memes).

The Mac Pro is priced from $5,999 (RM24,934) while the Pro Display XDR monitor is priced from $4,999 (RM20,778). Seriously folks, just go for the MacBooks, or get a car or something.
