Can future iPhones and iPads power our laptops?

Let’s face it, the iPhone and iPad are probably the most boring gadgets right now, however a patent filing was issued by the US Patent and Trademark office, where Apple has filed a patent for turning your iPhone and iPad into a computing device by putting it on the trackpad or slotting it into a laptop-like case respectively. Such a concept may not be something new, as Android phone makers such as ASUS have attempted this with the Padfone, however it shows how Apple is looking to expand the features of iOS devices rather than just being incremental updates all the time.

With that said, Apple CEO Tim Cook has always talked about how the iPad Pro is a powerful computer and can be used for everyday work, while recent iOS devices have also been proven to be fast performers as well, hence it would be safe to assume that iOS devices could be rather capable devices for work when paired with the right accessory, however just like most patent filings that Apple has made, such concept would not usually surface in the near future, or there could be changes on how it should work, which we should probably just take it with a grain of salt.

Still, its good to see that Apple is still on the move to make something innovative, lets hope the company makes another ‘Steve Jobs’ moment when it announces new devices this year, as the iPhone is already in the market for a decade.
