Resso is ByteDance’s music app that is launched in India and Indonesia — created to compete against music streaming apps like Apple Music and Spotify.
Initially launched six months back, Resso is available to both iOS and Android users. It’s a music app can display real-time lyrics, allow users to comment under songs and also comes with some of TikTok’s feature. Using the song they listen to, they can create short videos called Vibes, which will be played as the song’s album art. Vibes created by each user can be liked by others and the most liked Vibe will be the album art by default.
Although Resso can be downloaded for free, it also has its own monthly subscription plan is you’d like to skip all the ads, similar to how Spotify works. Resso is currently available for ₹119 in India and comes with a 14-day free trial. Those who sign up for its ad-free service will be able to download music offline, stream songs without any ads and get high-quality audio.
Despite that, Resso has not reached an agreement with big music labels like Warner Music Group Corp., Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment. This could mean that many famous songs could be missing from the platform’s library. As of now, Resso is only tested in Indonesia and India, but it will be expanding to other regions in the near future.
