Android Nougat is currently in beta form when it comes to Samsung’s sole flagship of 2016, the Galaxy S7. The beta software includes not only new features from Android Nougat, but also has a series of tweaks and improvements surrounding Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. According to Android Central, the latest beta software update brings a new quirk to the Galaxy S7, in terms of its display resolution.
The folks at Android Central have reported that the latest Nougat beta for the Galaxy S7 has its screen resolution adjusted to 1080p as the default screen resolution. Fortunately for beta testers, this doesn’t come as much of an issue as users are able to tweak the resolution back to the sharper QHD resolution. This feature, in a way isn’t exactly new, given the fact that the unlucky Galaxy Note 7 introduced a battery saving measure whereby it would lower the display resolution from 1440p.
In the Galaxy S7’s case, users have the option to select between HD resolution at 720p, Full HD resolution at 1080p and QHD resolution 1440p. The only tiny problem is that 1080p resolution will be default along with the latest beta software. Scaling down display resolutions isn’t something new as well. The Xperia Z5 Premium, a handset which supposedly has a 4K display, only renders media in 4K, but for the most part runs only at 1080p resolution.
Samsung will certainly be fixing this issue when the next beta software update rolls out. Meanwhile, adjusting the display resolution back up to 1440p can be done in a matter of seconds via the Galaxy S7’s settings menu. Maybe Samsung thinks that the S7 does not have to run on QHD resolution all the time, or not? What do you think?
