Battle of the broadband packages: Maxis fires back at Unifi with 800Mbps plans

The fight is on – two of the largest fibre broadband providers in the country lock horns to provide the best deal around town.

We’re talking about TM Unifi and Maxis of course, and just last week, Unifi signified their intentions by introducing their new 300Mbps package for RM199. The plan entails unlimited quota, upload speeds of 50Mbps, Unifi media box, and more; this week, Maxis answers right back with three new MaxiONE Home Fibre plans – 300Mbps for RM149, 500Mbps, for RM219, and 800Mbps for RM299.

Taking a like-for-like comparison, Maxis’ 300Mbps plan is RM50 cheaper than Unifi’s, but the catch is that it doesn’t offer much else in terms of benefits like a media box. But the knockout blow here is dealt by Maxis’ 800Mbps plan that costs exactly the same as Unifi’s 300Mbps at RM199 per month.

With this package, you’re talking about unlimited quota, obviously, up to a whopping 200Mbps of upload speeds, two free mesh Wi-Fi devices, and free local calls. For the uninitiated, 800Mbps is mighty fast – only Time can beat their chests with their 1Gbps plan that’s priced the the same.

But here’s where TM stands a chance – coverage; both Maxis and Time have relatively limited coverage areas as compared to Unifi – which is pretty much nation-wide at this point. 300Mbps broadband speed is sufficient for most folks anyway, we we’re going to call it even between the telcos.
