The gaming smartphone segment is expected to see some serious growth this year. A few weeks back, Xiaomi’s Black Shark sub-brand unveiled its first Snapdragon 855-powered gaming smartphone. ZTE sub-brand Nubia is expected to launch its Red Magic 3 gaming smartphone by the end of this month.
According to a new report, ASUS is planning to launch its next gaming smartphone in the third quarter of the year. The DigiTimes report claims ASUS is hoping to partner with Tencent in China to promote the second-generation ROG gaming smartphone in the country. Sources say if things work out as planned between ASUS and Tencent, it will provide a lifeline to the Taiwanese brand’s ailing smartphone business.
As of now, however, there is no information on the possible hardware specs of the next-generation ASUS ROG phone. However, we can be fairly certain that it will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, with several optimizations to help provide superior performance to other smartphones running on the same chipset.
Apart from the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, we expect the second-generation ROG Phone to have a refreshed design with a more impressive screen-to-body ratio. On the software front, it is highly likely to come with several new gaming-oriented features.
