ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has launched the ROG Ally X, a new model of its popular ROG Ally handheld game console. Designed for Windows 11 gaming on the go, the ROG Ally X retains the powerful AMD Ryzen™ Z1 Extreme processor but introduces significant enhancements in storage, RAM, battery life, ergonomics, cooling, and connectivity. With Armoury Crate SE 1.5, which includes a customizable game library and unified system updates, the ROG Ally X promises an exceptional gaming experience.

Key Upgrades in Storage, RAM, and Battery Life

The ROG Ally X incorporates user feedback to upgrade crucial internal components. The new model features a 1TB SSD, doubling the storage capacity of the original ROG Ally. It also includes a redesigned motherboard with an M.2 2280 form factor slot, enabling easier storage upgrades.

The device is equipped with 24 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM, enhancing performance and flexibility. The AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, which shares video RAM with system RAM, benefits significantly from this upgrade, offering better performance for high-resolution, lifelike textures in modern AAA titles.

Additionally, the ROG Ally X boasts an 80Wh battery, twice the capacity of its predecessor. Despite the substantial increase in battery life, the device only weighs 70 grams more than the original, with a perfectly centered weight distribution for comfortable play and portability.

Enhanced Controls and Connectivity

The ROG Ally X features a redesigned chassis in a sleek black colorway. The handles are slightly deeper, and the shape is more rounded for improved comfort. The buttons and sticks are ergonomically angled, and the triggers are slanted for easier pressing. The macro buttons on the back are smaller to reduce accidental presses while remaining accessible.

New joysticks, rated for a 5-million-cycle lifespan, and an improved D-Pad with precise eight-direction input enhance the gaming experience. The original XG Mobile port has been replaced with two USB-C ports, one of which is Thunderbolt-compatible, ensuring wide interoperability with third-party docks and external GPUs.

Improved Thermal Management

The ROG Ally X features new, smaller fans with 50% thinner blades to improve airflow. Two new tunnels in the fan housing direct air up and out toward a third exhaust vent on the upper edge of the device. This new thermal solution increases airflow by 24%, cooling internal components and the touch screen, which measures up to 6°C cooler for more comfortable long-term usage.

At this time of writing, ASUS ROG has not announced pricing and availability for the Malaysian market.
