The MacBook Neo isn’t just Apple’s most affordable computer to date starting at just RM2499 in Malaysia, but it is also built better and has performance that easily destroys possibly every Windows laptops within its price range, which even ASUS CFO Nick Wu has admitted that it has shaken up the market during an earnings call.

“Given Apple’s historically very premium pricing, launching such an affordable product is certainly a shock to the entire market,” a quote from Wu in the transcript of the company’s earnings call published by Seeking Alpha. Wu continues to quote that despite the MacBook Neo’s appealing value, it is limited by specs such as only having of 8GB of RAM, which will impact the ability to use certain apps, he also believes Apple is positioning it as a device for ‘content consumption’.

In fact, the PC industry is taking the MacBook Neo’s introduction “very seriously”, in which Wu says that upstream vendors like Microsoft, Intel and AMD are discussing how they can compete with this device in the entire PC ecosystem.

As of now, it might still be early to tell if the MacBook Neo can affect the market share of Windows systems, but it is still not a device to be taken lightly, as recent efforts by Microsoft to push AI and CoPilot into the faces of WIndows users have been increasingly frustrating, while most entry Windows laptops can’t match the performance and efficiency of the A18 Pro chip that’s used in the MacBook Neo.
