ASUS launches the ZenFone AR, a Tango enabled phone with three rear cameras

Today, Asus has launched the ZenFone AR in Malaysia, a Tango-enabled phone that supports both VR through Google Daydream and AR technologies. Tango is a software developed by Google that enables augmented reality straight on your phone without any markers or trackers, creating an AR experience that you can get anywhere at anytime. It is also the smallest and lightest Tango-enabled device comparing to the other available products out there.

The smaller form factor is thanks to the innovative ASUS TriCam system, that puts three cameras at the back of the phone, with each of them serving a purpose of its own. The first being a 23MP PixelMaster 3.0 main camera, a motion-tracking camera, and a depth-sensing camera that meets Tango’s specifications.

The phone is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor optimised for Tango, 8GB RAM, 5.7-inch WQHD Super AMOLED display and five-magnet speaker, making Daydream’s apps and games more immersive. It also comes with Android 7.0 out-of-the-box.

The phone’s audio system is powered by ASUS SonicMaster 3.0 technology and is driven by a powerful NXP smart amplifier, to deliver clear and expansive sound that can be played at high volumes without any breakage. It will also support DTS Headphones:X to provide a virtual 7.1-channel audio for an even more immersive audio experience.

The Thin and light metallic design brings a beautiful, minimalistic, light and compact design to the phone, with stainless steel accents around the camera to help protect the camera lens from scratches. The ergonomic curved shaped, 4.8mm edge and the tactile leather-patterned rear surface feels great in the hand.

As for the camera features, it comes with four-axis OIS and three-axis EIS for more stable photos and videos, 0.03 second autofocus technology, Super Resolution Mode by merging four 23MP photos to create a 92MP photo, RAW file format support to make editing photos easier, high-resolution 4K UHD video recording and professional manual creative controls to give you full control of the camera.

The phone will be priced at RM3,799 and is available for purchase from all authorised ASUS resellers. It will also come with a one-year one-to-one exchange within 12 months of purchase. For more information on this and other Asus products, check out their official website here.
