There’s a lot to look forward to in iOS 13 that will be released this September, but one of them poses a major issue to apps like Facebook and WhatsApp. The new iOS will come with a privacy feature that will no longer allow background voice over internet protocol (VoIP).
Basically, apps using VoIP will allow them to collect data on the activities performed on their devices. Up till now, users have been convinced that VoIP offers quicker call connections. Since iOS 13 will no longer allow access, apps like Facebook and WhatsApp will have to modify their apps to adapt to the new change.
According to Forbes, app developers are given a deadline to upgrade their apps according to the new rules set by Apple. They’ll have to rewrite their codes to fit the new version of the operating system by April 2020.
Meanwhile, Apple also has a new security feature in iOS 13 called “Sign in with Apple” — similar to the “Sign in with Facebook” or “Sign in with Google” features that you’ve seen on many sites. The only difference is Apple offers higher security that allows users to hide their email and protect their data so that it’s not used for other purposes like advertising and data collection.
