As Apple hosts its first ever event at the Steve Jobs Theater, the company will also be announcing a couple of products which are due for an update. The Apple Watch Series 3 has finally been unveiled. While it might not be as big of an upgrade from its predecessor, the wearable has some noteworthy features to look out for.
Apple has stated that the Apple Watch Series 3 is the same size as the Series 2. Internally, the watch is powered by a new W2 chip which is 50 percent more power efficient, plus 85 percent faster Wi-Fi. The most significant upgrade to the Apple Watch is its LTE capability. The Apple Watch Series 3 has a tiny electronic SIM which will enable the watch to be used even more independently from the iPhone. Apple has also highlighted the fact that users will be able to stream millions of songs on Apple Music through the cellular Apple Watch Series 3.
The new and more power efficient W2 chip definitely does make sense now that the Apple Watch has cellular connectivity, with up to 18 hours of battery life. With the new watchOS 4 software running on the Apple Watch Series 3, it now has a more capable heart rate sensor features. Users will now be able to view their heart rate on the Apple Watch face, and can now set notifications whereby users will be informed when the watch detects an inconsistency or irregularity in heart rate. Furthermore, Siri will be able to speak to you on the new watchOS.
The Apple Watch is official the number one watch in the world according to Apple, having leapfrogged from second place. With new software and LTE connectivity, the Apple Watch Series 3 also comes with a slew of newly designed watch bands. The Apple Watch Series 3 costs $329 for the non-cellular model and $399 for the cellular model. The Apple Watch Series 1’s price has been reduced to $249. The Apple Watch Series 3 will be available to order beginning September 15.
