Apple has announced a long awaited update to its AirPods lineup, including the release of AirPods 4 and a revolutionary hearing health experience with AirPods Pro 2. The latest models offer cutting-edge audio technology, new design features, and the world’s first all-in-one hearing health system integrated into a consumer headphone.

The new AirPods 4 feature an advanced open-ear design, offering users two models: one with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and one without. These models provide up to 24 hours of battery life with their charging case, while introducing enhanced sound quality thanks to a new acoustic architecture, a low-distortion driver, and high dynamic range amplifier.

Powered by the H2 chip, AirPods 4 delivers personalized spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, voice isolation for clearer call quality, and new control features such as a force sensor on the stem to pause music or end calls. The charging case has been redesigned for greater convenience, featuring USB-C compatibility and wireless charging, while also being the smallest in the industry.

For the first time, ANC comes to the AirPods 4 open-ear design, reducing environmental noise for a more immersive listening experience. Transparency mode and Adaptive Audio further enhance listening by blending noise cancellation and environmental awareness dynamically.

Despite no new hardware successor for the AirPods Pro 2, it gains hearing health capabilities that will benefit existing customers. Incorporating an end-to-end hearing health system, including active Hearing Protection, a scientifically validated Hearing Test, and a clinical-grade Hearing Aid feature.

AirPods Pro 2 helps users prevent hearing damage through its active Hearing Protection, reducing exposure to loud noises in various environments like subways or concerts. A new Hearing Test feature offers an in-home, personalized hearing evaluation, with results securely stored in the Health app for easy sharing with healthcare providers.

AirPods Pro 2 also introduces a first-of-its-kind Hearing Aid feature, offering real-time, personalized adjustments for users with mild to moderate hearing loss. This software-based capability allows users to boost specific sounds, enhancing conversations and media without the need for external hearing devices. Both the Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features are expected to receive regulatory approval soon.
