Apple still top tablet seller, but tablet market isn’t looking good

People mostly purchase tablets for extras, and it won’t be because it is a necessity. We would understand if a person gets a tablet for college or work use few years ago, but with the growing number of compact slim portable laptops and the increasing size of smartphone displays, the demand for tablets will only decline. The latest statistics tells us that it will be the case moving forward.

Global tablet shipments for Q3 2017 have reduced by 2.3 million units to 40 million as compared to 42.3 million in Q3 2017. That marks a 5.4 percent decline from last year. Apple however, has managed to keep the market afloat by selling a total of 10.3 million tablets in Q3 this year, 1 million more than the same time frame in 2016, accounting for more than a quarter of the market share.

Samsung still sits at second place, with its cut reduced to 15 percent while Amazon takes third place with its range of affordable Fire Tablets, with a 1.3 million increase in shipments from last year, a whopping 38.7 percent improvement. This goes to show that budget tablets could still be in demand.

The future isn’t looking really bright for tablets, but so long as Apple releases more iPads, the market will pretty much stay alive.
