When the Macbook Air was first launched more than half a decade ago, it turned out to be one of the most sought after laptops from Apple. The Macbook Air sported an extremely slim form factor at the time it was launched, slated to replace the then popular white Macbook.
However, we’ve seen the slimming down of the Macbook Pro models over the last couple of years, including the introduction of an all new 12-inch Macbook, causing the Macbook Air to grow irrelevant as time passed. The once extremely popular laptop is now only a budget option among Apple’s huge plethora of Mac laptops, deemed to face extinction, but Apple has surprised us last night at WWDC 2017.
Apple brought in a whole load of updates to its software and hardware offerings at this year’s WWDC, including an update to all Mac models, both desktop and laptop. To our surprise, the Macbook Air wasn’t left out this time, turning its fate around once again. Although Apple only mentioned the Macbook Air’s upgrade in a brief sentence, it is important to note that the laptop is now running on a speedier Intel chipset.
The Macbook Air now features a faster 1.8GHz dual core Intel Core i5 processor underneath the hood, which we hope will actually make a difference when it comes to performance. The rest of the specs remain the same throughout – 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM, storage options of 128GB or 256GB, and an Intel HD Graphics 6000 GPU.
The updated Macbook Air carries a price tag of RM 4,199 for the 128GB model and RM 4,999 for the 256GB model.
