Apple has officially released iOS 11.3 to iOS devices today, this feature update brings a number of new features and improvements to the user experience, which includes ARKit with support for more immersive augmented reality experiences, iPhone Battery Health (Beta), new Animojis for iPhone X and improvements to privacy features. Judging by Apple’s fashion, this could be the last feature update for iOS 11, as the company is expected to release the next major release of iOS in WWDC which will happen on June 4th.
iOS 11 has received much criticism on it’s reliability since it’s launch, the iOS 11.3 update will finally give you the option to disable CPU throttling when your iPhone’s battery has aged, iPhone Battery Health will be able to show detailed information on your iPhone’s battery capacity and peak performance capability, while also advising if you should replace your battery; as for iPad, there is also a new charge management feature that maintains battery health when plugged in for prolonged periods of time, which is useful for iPads that are used as kiosks and point of sale systems.
For those who are concerned about privacy when an Apple feature asks for permissions, an icon will appear with a link that explains how your data will be used. Autofill on Safari will now only work when you select a web form field, it is also now available in web views within apps for convenience.
As for Augmented Reality, users can expect higher resolution real world camera view when using AR apps, and developers can finally place digital objects on vertical surfaces like walls and doors in addition to horizontal surfaces; iPhone X users will be getting the lion, bear, dragon and skull as new Animoji characters.
As usual, if you would like to upgrade to iOS 11.3, we would recommend that you backup your iOS devices’ data to iCloud or on to your computer as a safety precaution, as there have been several cases of bricked and bootloop iPhones in previous iOS updates, otherwise it is always safer to update your iOS device using iTunes instead of over-the-air for better assurance.
