Apple patents wraparound iPhone with all-glass housing

Have you gone mad Apple – you’re not supposed to be innovative! Just kidding – Apple pretty much invented the notch display trend so this news could potentially lead to something big.

According to Patently Apple, the American giants have patented a design for a wraparound display, something like the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha – but the patent shows a device with intense curves all around.

Both the front and back displays are arched slightly so the chassis takes on an oval shape if you look at it from the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, we also see what looks to be charging ports, and just in between them a rectangular slot – possibly the speaker.

Patently Apple notes that Apple have described the design as “a looping transparent housing that displays images across the loop, with electrical components within the transparent housing”.

It hurts to imagine slotting a phone like this into my jeans pocket – can’t help but think the glass panels would crack like an egg under pressure. But hey, we’re sure Apple would reinforce the displays with something else. I also doubt you’ll be able to put this phone down flat on a table – I foresee perpetual back and forth rocking.
