NVIDIA launched two Android gaming tablets under its belt in 2014 and 2015. Both the NVIDIA Shield Tablet and Shield Tablet K1 featured NVIDIA’s own design elements, with impressive front facing speakers, power NVIDIA Tegra processors, plus GeForce Now, a cloud gaming app which allows users to stream PC titles from the cloud. NVIDIA’s Shield Tablet’s come with a very clean near to stock Android software as well. Despite only catering to a niche market, NVIDIA has worked hard to officially roll out Android Nougat software to both Shield Tablet’s.

NVIDIA’s Nougat software is said to be rolling out over the next few days to ensure stability. One of the key things to note is that with the software update, both tablets now support NVIDIA’s new Shield Controller that was launched earlier this year alongside the brand new NVIDIA Shield TV. The other added features are the ones that come by default via an upgrade to Android Nougat software, such as Doze on the Go, smarter notifications and split screen multitasking between apps.

Both the NVIDIA Shield Tablet and the Shield Tablet K1 are still impressive mobile devices till this day, though they have begun aging, especially the former tablet. The Nougat update will definitely give these tablets a fresher look, coupled with the attractive budget price tag. Are you one of the handful of NVIDIA Shield Tablet users?
