Android N Preview now available for developers

Google is being generous today as the company has released a preview version of the company’s next version of Android, Android N Preview.

If you own a recent Nexus device or the Pixel C, you can gain access to Android N Preview right now. All you need to do is to participate in an Android Beta Program that installs pre-release versions of the OS over the air. Of course, the old fashioned method of installing it via a drive image is still an available option.

So what is new in Android N Preview? Well, there are a few minor improvements such as the ability to reply to messages directly through the notifications. It also features an option that bundles notifications from the same app so that it wouldn’t clutter your view. Marshmallow’s Doze features has been improved to save battery life and coders can now take advantage of Java 8 featyres. However, the biggest feature that is new to Android N Preview is multi-window mode. If you have a tablet or a large-screened smartphone, you can now put apps side-by-side. Also available in Android N Preview is picture-in-picture video mode.

One thing to note if you’re going to install the preview, is that Android N Preview, as the name implies, is a preview build. As such, you can expect bugs and sub-optimal resource management that could result in shorter battery life. If those issues sounds like a small price to pay to experience the laltest Android build, you can acquire the Android N Preview here.
